Plaster and paneling
Older homes often have plaster walls or wood paneling, and both need different hardware than the anchors in the box. I bring the right ones, so a heavy mirror doesn’t end up on the floor.
Questions
How much weight can a shelf hold?
It depends on the shelf and what’s behind the wall. Into studs, a sturdy bracket shelf can hold books and dishes. On drywall only, I’ll tell you honestly what it can hold before I install it.
Can you hang things on brick?
Yes, with masonry bits and anchors. I drill into the mortar joints when possible, since mortar is easier to patch than brick.
